The new track from Regina Spektor’s 6th full length album may be proving ground that she’s turned a new page musically. Up until now her songs, while having addicting elements, lacked the seriousness that one tends to look for in musicians of her caliber. “All The Rowboats” is a much darker tune then we’ve come to expect from Spektor even dabbling in drum machines and chords in the lower register.
This is a very reassuring track to listen to. For the first 5 albums Spektor relied on more bubbly and playful songs that have played their part in her success but are an aspect that I believe she needs to now separate herself from. She made headway in the direction on Far and hopefully she’ll continue with this trend of writing songs that will be heard more favorably to her adult contemporary listeners.
