Another forthcoming soundtrack by Ólafur Arnalds. Not much intel yet. The best bet is still probably the Facebook page. This one could be pretty amazing: In 1944, Soviet forces occupied the Baltics for the second...

mp3 Andrew Bird – “Eyeoneye”

This is probably the most straight forward track that we've ever heard from Andrew Bird. There's very little orchestration and almost no whistling whatsoever. It's taken a couple of listens to really get an appreciate...

Prevaluation: Shooter Jennings – Black Ribbon

I received an advanced copy of Shooter Jennings & Hierophant’s Black Ribbon in the mail today but before I plop it in the CD player I want  to show you the fantastic packaging that it comes in.

The initial thought is “Oh just another CD in a sleeve”. If you think that you would be so wrong

Pulling the packaging out of the sleeve revealed that there is more to this than there appears. This is what I initially saw.

Flip the above picture over and flatten it out and you get this

Continue the unfold

Now flip it over

So that’s the packaging. There is also included in the case 1 of 6 limited edition archetype cards. What an “archetype card” actually is I don’t know but it looks like a faux tarot card. This is probably the case since The Hierophant is one of the 22 trump cards in the Major Arcana and represents conformity to social standards, or a deference to the established social moral order. (I didn’t know that off the top of my head, I had to look it up)

Then there’s the actual CD. Now I’m not one to throw out F-bombs so I usually feel that to do so is a little gauche but if I’m going to report on the album then you need to see the CD as well.

So that’s the whole shootin’ match that you can expect upon the purchase of this album. One thing that you’ll notice is that there are 20 tracks on the album. Now whether that’s 20 tracks of actual music or if some of those tracks are the spoken word of narrator Stephen King as Will O’ The Wisp I will just have to find out.

Packaging can be a big impact on an album and with this packaging Shooter Jennings is either setting the table for a fantastic meal or he’s pulling the rope on his own guillotine.

Now let’s start listening.

The artwork is killer, loved it !

  2. Jason says:

This album is awesome. Sorry Shooter fans……. just heard of him today actually…. and its a very well written record. I’d pick it up…. for sure if you like Pink Floyd or Roger Waters

  3. Geronimo says:

I listened to Shooter’s interview with Alex Jone’s which in turn I bought the album. I love the message and some of the music. I love the Stephen King parts. Shooter says in the interview that the cards are for when they are doing a show, they will announce one of the cards (there are 6) whoever has that card gets to come back and talk to him and the band.

  4. RR says:

This album and all that surrounds it, has a real chance at getting a message out.

Hi, is there any text written by STEPHEN KING with the CD?
    All the best

    • Patrick says:

There’s no additional excerpts or writing from King there also is, unfortunately, no real “booklet” that accompanies the album that would include lyrics, pictures or the transcript for King’s narration.

I just listen to this album for the first time today and oh my goodness! This is an amazing album and I am totally shocked by it. Shooter! This is one of the best progressive rock albums of my time and I’m a huge Rush, Porcupine tree, King Crimson ect. fan. I don’t know what to say but I’m getting ready to listen to it again. Buy this album especially if your a tea party patriot and against the new world order. This makes the Muse sound like crap!!!!!!! Way to go.
