New Apparatjik – “Electric Eye”

Apparatjik is comprised of Mew’s Jonas Bjerre on vocals, Magne Furuholmen of a-ha on guitar and Guy Berryman from Coldplay on bass. I must say that I am still completely baffled as to what is going on here. The website has the mp3 for “Electric Eye” that you can download for the price of an [...]

Persistent, errant first impressions

I keep thinking that Patrick’s post from Tuesday is titled Coldplay vs. Satan, Case Closed. For the curious, I did a Google search for Coldplay vs. Satan, clicked I’m Feeling Lucky, and came up with this.

Coldplay vs. Satriani, Case Closed

Coldplay has two of three lawsuits settled for their supposed plagiarism of the tune used in “Viva la Vida”. First Creaky Boards got all the publicity that they were seeking and retracted their claim and now Judge Dean D. Pregerson dismissed Satriani’s Copyright Infringement case “upon stipulation” which apparently means that there was an undisclosed [...]

Apparently Islam is a Religion of Peace

Cat Stevens (Yusuf Islam) has officially forgiven Coldplay for ripping off his tune “Foreigner Suite”, He even says that he would like to invite them around for a cup of tea. It’s good to know that Stevens/Islam hasn’t thrown Martin and the boys in with his thoughts about Salman Rushdie. Unfortunately Joe Satriani is not [...]

“And I feel them drown my name/so easy to know/and forget with this kiss that I’m not afraid to go”

Your history with Jeff Buckley is probably similar to mine. It was late 1997, early 1998.  That great and mysterious door that opens once every ten centuries was closing with a slow, terrible moan. Chronic fear of death by computer glitch or accidental ICBM launch. Or intentional ICBM launch: both Kashmiri nations test nuclear weapons. [...]

Find of The Week Vol.1 No.13

I have been listening to this album almost non-stop for the past week making it an obvious choice for this week’s find. Barcelona’s new release Absolutes (Universal/Motown Records) is technically a re-release from 2007 through NBD Records. This might be a technicality that I have to overlook in order to get Absolutes onto my top [...]

Coldplay In The Hot Seat

Did you know I wrote “Viva La Vida” about 5 years ago? I did really and so did Creaky Boards and Joe Satriani and now so did Cat Stevens. The only law suit so far is coming from Satriani and Cat Stevens has said that he won’t file any lawsuit at all. I’ll let you [...]

If Czechoslovakia were still around, and a radio station, it would sound like this.

There are XM Radio People, and there are Sirius Satellite People. But even in this post-merger world, something says that there are no Sirius XM Radio People. Do the rest of you XM Radio veterans feel invaded upon? Sirius DJs blather on and on about nothing, and their names are weird. Their stations are stuck [...]

If it Ain’t Broke…

Coldplay is already jumping back into the studio with Brian Eno only 6 months after the release of their double platinum album Viva La Vida, only this time Eno is throwing in a reality TV series-esque curve ball. They are kicking Chris Martin out of the studio. As most bands do, they take the singer/songwriter’s [...]
