A lot has been said about Muse since the teaser trailer for The 2nd Law, their 6th studio album, was released in early June. Some comments were from fans in disgust and others welcomed the new sound as an obvious next step for the band. I, for one, am with the latter group but that’s not to say that the entire album is going to be a dubstep tribute. In an interview with Huffington Post Bellamy says that they went to see Skrillex live and were blown away by the reaction of the audience which inspired them to write the final two tracks of the album. I take that to mean that the whole album is not dubstep, especially considering that in an interview with NME Bellamy had this to say:
We’ve tried a bunch of new things, which the trailer gives a glimpse of. There’s only one song that’s like that. We’ve basically tried to do what Rage Against The Machine did with hip-hop in the 1990s and take a bit of the electronic world and dubstep and play it with real instruments. There’s only one track like that, the rest of it is very, very diverse.
So have no fear Muse faithful this just might not be the apocalypse that you feared.
