Tony Sly of No Use For A Name Dead at 41

A dark clou

d hangs over the head of punk music today as Fat Wreck Chords announced the passing of Tony Sly, the frontman for long time San Jose, Ca based punk band No Use For A Name.

We don’t post much about punk here at The Muse but have it be known that I am a huge No Use For A Name fan and have been for more than 15 years so this news hits me especially hard today. I saw the band live many years ago on their More Betterness Tour which still goes down as one of the best shows I’ve seen and I will greatly miss his music and energy.

Sly’s nearly 2 decade career includes 9 studio albums, 2 solo acoustic albums and two acoustic albums with label mate and Lagwagon frontman Joey Cape which was just released last month and for which Sly was out on tour promoting with Cape.

Fat Wreck Chords owner, Fat Mike, had this to say about Sly: “One of my dearest friends and favorite song writers has gone way too soon. Tony, you will be greatly missed.”

The cause of death is still unknown.
