The men of The Giving Tree Band come from adventurous, even heroic, stock. Their prescription for a good life is to live an honorable one, with a strong connection to nature and the goodness that comes from being in complete harmony with it. Find like-minded folk (say, a troupe of impeccable musicians) and the rest will follow. It’s an attitude more commonly found in fantasy novels than the real world. When I’m reminded that this mindset does in fact exist, it’s a refreshing and wonderful feeling.
The Giving Tree Band is currently promoting their newest album, Vacilador, which is set for release in October. Vacilador is a Spanish word inspired and taken from John Steinbeck’s book Travels with Charlie. The actual translation is debatable, but the band interprets it as follows: “it refers to an adventurer who goes on a quest for something he knows cannot be found. But what is discovered along the path proves to be more valuable than what he was searching for in the first place.”
Adventurous, heroic and romantic.
Today we’re sharing the music video for “Cold Cold Rain” and a free download. It features stunning hand-painted artwork (done in the style of Dia de los Muertos) and fun stop-motion animation.
