Stream: Weikie – “Raise Our Sunken Ship”

Her Name Is Calla have been pretty quiet since the release of their astounding The Quiet Lamb and subsequently the EP Maw. The exodus of two important members (Thom Corah and Michael Love) hasn’t helped their cause either in creating a sound that requires more than just three musicians. The band’s website reported that they are working on new material but until then feast your ears upon the solo work of multi-instrumentalist Adam Weikert under the moniker Weikie.

Weikert’s vocals aren’t at the forefront of Her Name Is Calla tracks with the booming voice that Tom Morris has but there’s a fantastic voice there hiding behind the drums. The best way to describe it is “warbly”, but not in the sense that the vocals are frail or not prominent, anything but. Weikert has, in my opinion, produced one of the best albums of 2012. Some tracks tend to skirt the line between country and folk but each one plays into the next flawlessly and with passion.
