video: “The Cherry Tree Carol,” by Forest Mountain Hymnal

If you’re like us, you’re not only not ready for Christmas, you’re not even ready for people to start asking if you’re ready for Christmas. But the wind is getting cold, the Santa suits are getting fitted, and the billboards for the tree-lighting ceremonies suggest you Like the Facebook page from your 4G wireless digital devices.

But let’s consider ourselves lucky by at least one measure: the Christmas-themed albums in our corner of the musical landscape aren’t schmaltzy, or saccharine, or really anything to do with Christmas at all. To wit, “The Cherry Tree Carol,” by Forest Mountain Hymnal, from their forthcoming EP Christmas Hymnal. The video is unpretentious to a fault, while the track is slow, organic, and bewitched. Look for Christmas Hymnal on December 1.
