Like her Dead Texan collaboration with Adam Wiltzie, Christina Vantzou’s project Nº1 is an audio-visual tender. We’ve discussed the audio half of that equation at some length (read our interview here), and at last we have a taste of the visual side. The clip is an interesting second view to — as I wrote before — “the opening cathedral moments of ‘Homemade Mountains,’ with its slow string tide, twinkling bells, and triumphant echo.” Odd geometries and pastel flickers are layered over still images of forested mountains, space, and sheer darkness. We rather prefer the music to the film, yet there is a deft symbiosis here. This way the two are strangely incomplete in themselves.
Kranky will release Nº1 on October 24.
