still warm: Future Nostalgia for sale, by Hiva Oa

The first half-minute, indeed the first ten seconds set the terms. This whitewashed chorus is the sound of inner dissonance, nothing really to do with the external world of instruments or processing. This...

Sometimes when you’re looking for vermicellini, it’s best to put down the Olive Garden menu and book a flight to…Tel Aviv?

Monti Fiori is an Israeli four-piece inspired by “Italian film composers, 50′s-60′s San-Remo pop hits, Mediterranean and gypsy music.” They released their self-titled EP on August 8. Stream it here.

Opening track “Pistole Di Pace” (“Guns Of Peace”) leads with a distant gunfight, bona fide spaghetti western whistling, and a small arms orchestra. “Sento” and “Il Sogno Italiano” are a bit more representative, namely “Sogno” (“The Italian Dream”), a happy, beachy, uptempo jangle dressed with ankle tether vocals and melodica calm. But your favorite track might be “Bella,” put to video below:

This is an unexpected debut: playful, brainy, and airtight. Weighing in at under 14 minutes, it’s over much too soon. Take it all in at the links below:
