One thing we know for sure, Spencer Krug hates down time. Since his debut release in 2002 with Frog Eyes, Krug has released 15 full length albums and 5 EP’s under 6 different monikers (Fifths of Seven, Sunset Rubdown, Frog Eyes, Moonface, Swan Lake, and Wolf Parade).
His latest album will come from his Moonface side. Organ Music Not Vibraphone Like I’d Hoped does actually have a story behind the title. Krug explained in a press release that originally he had intended to write an album with only a vibraphone, a little bit of guitar and a smattering of percussion. When that didn’t workout he opted for a double-manual organ.
This will be the second release for Moonface. The first was a 20 minute, single track EP called Dreamland EP: Marimba and Shit-Drums. With only 5 tracks on the new LP, it still plays out as a full length. Krug explains:
“Though it’s only 5 tracks long, Organ Music runs around 37 minutes and is dense, but in a satisfying way, I hope, like eating a small, heavy piece of cheesecake. It’s music played with an organ, organ beats, organ beeps and bloops, and some digital drums. Music based on layers and loops, the hypnotizing sound of a Leslie speaker, and the onslaught of melody.”
“The Way You Wish You Could Live In The Storm” is one track that did not make the final cut for the new album so it’s odd to have this be out for download prior to the album release. It definitely didn’t get cut from the album due to any length requirements, it still breaches the 8 minute mark in solid Krug fashion.
Organ Music Not Vibraphone Like I’d Hoped is out August 2nd via Jagjaguwar.
