It is Muse in Music editorial board policy that Kickstarter.com campaigns are freakin’ awesome. Bands get paid for their studio time in advance, instead of betting on the come. Depending on the pledge structure, they sell their T-shirts in advance, or their vinyl copies. Sometimes, depending on what the grand prize is, they may even get stalked in advance.
TMIM newbies Thunder Power recently wrote in about their own Kickstart.com campaign. Here is their pledge structure:
$5 — “Digital pre-release download of a single from the new album.”
$10 — “Digital download of the complete album when it’s done, plus all rewards from lower levels.”
$25 — “Love Yourself CD, Friend Ships CD, thank you in the liner notes, plus all rewards from lower levels.”
$50 — “Hearts Intersect vinyl plus all rewards from lower levels.”
$75 — “A vinyl copy of the new album when it’s done plus all rewards from lower levels.”
$100 — “A stuffed animal handmade by Kacynna, a t-shirt hand-silkscreened by the band, plus all rewards from lower levels.”
$500 — “A customized song written and recorded by Thunder Power just for you! It can be about anything you want and in whatever style you want. You also get all the rewards from lower levels.”
Keep up with them here: (facebook::twitter::myspace). Sample their music first at Soundcloud or Bandcamp, or just take a taste below. If you’re new to the power of, well, Thunder Power, this is clear-as-bell folksy pop, with a wry female vocalist and a kinetic energy normally lacking in the sport. Good stuff.
