Video/Stream: “Gift,” by Soffie Viemose

Soffie Viemose is a Danish electronica singer/songwriter who composes her music alone on her laptop.  She grew up in the town of Roskilde, famous for its annual music festival and viking ship museum.  She and her family took vacations as a child to Canada: “This experience has definitely shaped me as a person. I was both secluded yet extremely close to my family. It was just us moving through those incredible landscapes. Maybe my taste for melancholia and pure sounds kind of stems from there.”  With her dismal lyrics now in her back pocket, she attended Berklee College of Music as a music synthesis Major.  After graduation, she moved back home to Copenhagan convinced that this would be better breeding territory for her atmospheric, glitch-y beats.

Viemose’s inspiration might be lonesome but her music grew legs. Listen with a glass of wine on a Friday after a long day of work and her “Gift” transforms to calmness.  The only thing that comes to mind after watching her glittery video for “Gift” is the nuisance of glitter everywhere after the shooting including her car, carpet, eyes, mouth and butt crack. Viemose describes the experience, “Yes, and I did find glitter in funny and in less funny places.” Soffie and her brother founded Polar Records in 2010 that will release her debut byPolar in late 2011.
