‘Tis the season…for weddings. Finding a good list of songs that don’t ooze with cheese to be played at your wedding reception while everyone is eating and waiting in line to grab a tasty beverage can take a few months to find. This list doesn’t include the crowd pleasers that will get your granny on the dance floor, but will make a few of your equally, music-yolked friends want a burnt copy of the mostly indie tunes. Plus, it will check one more item off the long list of worries. The Laura Marling song/video for “Rest In the Bed” has not been recorded or released yet. Even if you want “Rest In the Bed” for your first dance and email Marling’s manager with your pitiful plea for a recording, you’re waisting your time (I already tried). UPDATE: Laura Marling’s “Rest In the Bed” will be on her album A Creature I Don’t Know that comes out September 13, 2011 if your wedding can wait that long.

Great list! I do want to point out that I think #8 “Fistful of Love” by Antony and the Johnsons is about an abusive relationship where the woman is interpreting her abuse as signs of affection…that or it’s about a sadomasochist relationship. Either way it IS a beautiful song, but one worth reeealllly listening to before having it played on your big day.

I am the best man at a friend of mine next weekend. I’m looking for songs for their wedding. Decent list, but there are a lot of crazy sad songs in there.
