[Update] Stevens has finally released Songs for Christmas Volume 6 (Gloria!) EP. The entire EP was recorded with the Dressner’s, and Richard Perry in the attic of Aaron Dressner’s Brooklyn home. Now that we have holiday music from Stevens Christmas is finally ready to come.
Last night BBC6 was graced with the presence of The National’s Aaron and Bryce Dessner, Arcade Fire’s Richard Perry and Sufjan Stevens as guest DJ’s for a few hours. During this special show the group debuted a few tracks that had been rumored to exist for a few years now.
“Barcarola (You Must Be A Christmas Tree)” is definitely old school Stevens, pre-Age of Adz for sure, and has musical lines thrown in from the “We Three Kings” to give it that extra Christmas boost. “Silent Night” doesn’t stray far from the original at all, almost to the point where I asked myself “What was the point?”. Both tracks will appear on the yet to be released Songs for Christmas Volume 6 (Gloria!).
You can stream the entire 2 hour set at BBC6.
