Via NME, Fever Ray has released a cover track of Peter Gabriel’s “Mercy Street” from the 1986 album So which she intends to released as a 7″ later this year.
According to Andersson:
We made it more intense and faster to fit our eccentric pecussionists and energetic live musicians. It is a monotone track but we worked with the dynamics trying to make it sparkle. I listened to it a lot when I was around 15, and it still moves me. It made me start reading Anne Sexton too.
The track plays well into Karin Dreijer Andersson’s use of hypnotizing percussions but doesn’t really reach the pinnacle that I have come to expect from her. The track lacks some of the eerie “what’s hiding around the corner” aspect that Andersson has mastered and that her fans love her for.
