Pinemarten Releases Follow Up EP

Just a few weeks ago we wrote about Pinemarten, an anonymous Chesterfield native writing music that we described as "electronic without belaboring the point". With just a few weeks under his belt as an official...

video: “Can’t Leave You,” by Doe Paoro

We hope you're ready to be caught flatfooted. "Can't Leave You" is a high register, deep water plunge. Soulful, worldly, expertly scored. It is rare for cello, piano and voice to flavor like...

TMIM reviews: Gauntlet Hair s/t

What does "gauntlet hair" sound like to you? Perhaps chainmail-clad jousters in some Renaissance Fair reenactment? Or a death metal band with spiked hair and spiked jackets? It’s a bizarre name. (And the folks...

Wintersleep to tour with The Hold Steady

Wintersleep

Here’s something that’s worth more than a one-track share. In fact, I suggest you pick up the entire collection.

If you’ve dabbled in The Hold Steady much, you might already know and love Wintersleep. If you’re just a casual listener (like moi) or if you just haven’t heard their stuff yet, then listen up. You’re missing out! Man, I hate missing out on great music. It’s a good thing we have a general tMiM email for useful announcements like: they’re touring together.

It only takes a few songs from Wintersleep’s Juno Award winning album Welcome to the Night Sky to get hooked. Their follow up album sounds pretty good, too… Not sure I like it quite as much, but I plan to have at least 3 or 6 more listens before I make any formal declarations.

Either way, my gut’s telling me that this tour should lock in a lot of new fans for them. The Hold Steady has quite the loyal and enthusiastic following. A great pairing indeed.

Here are two tracks to get you started. “Weighty Ghost” from Welcome to the Night Sky, and the title track to their recent release, New Inheritors.

Everyone say, “Thank you Nova Scotia!”
