Few things frustrate me more than deliberately stalking other blogs and coming up dry. Where is my head at? Why does everything sound adequate, but only just so? It’s not right, people.
So screw it, I’m going back to the ol’ iPod and posting something of my own! Back to 2008, when life took a hard turn but made me a better person for it. I think. Anyway, this was a time when I did a lot of “active listening” and found a lot of great stuff.
Like the song “Shut Up I’m Dreaming of Places Where Lovers Have Wings” by the art rock band Sunset Rubdown. (Right – we’ll refer to it as “Shut Up” from now on, just to make things easier on ourselves.) “Shut Up” was actually released in 2006 and is everything I love in a broody song – it has a delicate, almost precarious intro that builds slowly and eventually explodes into the most perfect jam (also strangely delicate, if you can think of a jam as delicate)… To make your listening experience even better, Sunset Rubdown does it twice. Thanks Spencer!
So check your speakers, make sure everything is turned way up and play this track right now.
