Olenka & the Autumn Lovers is a Canadian based band fronted by Polish singer/songwriter Olenka Krakus. The best I can describe their sound is Amanda Palmer mixed with Baltic orchestrations mixed with some folk twang.
In 2008 alone the band has released 3 albums, a 6 song EP called Warsaw Girl, a full length 11 song self-titled LP and another 6 song EP called Papillonette. After listening to the clips on CD Baby I now see why there were so many releases. Papillonette focuses more on the folk side while the full LP embraces the Eastern European sound that flows through Olenka’s veins, which reminds me of Beirut but without Condon’s signature operatic voice.
It’s very obvious that Olenka is an extremely talent musician and equally talented songwriter with her lyrics touching on her memories of communist Polland and Polish folklore.
