There aren’t many things that I look forward to from year to year more than football season. With just a few weeks left in the season I try to start remembering what it is that I do on Sunday afternoons when there’s no football on.
Apparently Prince doesn’t have trouble figuring out what to do with his spare time between games. After the beat down that Minnesota laid on Dallas last week Prince says that he “saw the future” and that the lyrics to the new Vikings fight song “Purple and Gold” came easy and fast.
The track was released exclusively to Robyne Robinson Minnesota’s Fox 9 on Thursday and trust me it is truly a horrible track. This from a man that has written some of the greatest songs of the century and this is what he craps out to rally an entire city?
Enjoy.
Purple and Gold Lyrics
the veil of the sky draws open
the roar of the chariots touch down
we r the ones who have now come again
and walk upon water like solid ground
as we approach the throne we won’t bow down
this time we won’t b denied
raise every voice and let it b known
in the name of the purple and gold
we come in the name of the purple and gold
all of the odds r in r favor
no prediction 2 bold
we r the truth if the truth can b told
long reign the purple and gold
the eyes say ready 4 battle
no need 4 sword in hand
we r all amped up like a rock n roll band
ready 2 celebrate every score
ready 2 fight the elegant war
ready 2 hear the crowd roar
that’s what we came 4
and so much more
in the name of the purple and gold
r spirits may b tired
r bodies may b worn
but since this day is r destiny
r history – that’s y we must b

Not a big football fan, so I’m not sure if this news piece applies or not. Maybe you can fill me in:
The New Orleans Saints are heading to their first Super Bowl after battering Brett Favre and beating the Minnesota Vikings 31-28 in overtime Sunday on unheralded Garrett Hartley’s 40-yard field goal. Favre threw away Minnesota’s best chance to win, tossing an interception deep in New Orleans territory in the closing seconds of regulation.
Maybe Prince’s bad song is the reason the that Vikings lost
