It’s been a little over a month since I was knocked off my chair by the anthemic debut single “Castaway” from Shearwater’s upcoming release The Golden Archipelago.
Today Matador Records released the next single. “Black Eyes” is a great track but starts out a little slow. At first it was a bit of a disappointment but stick with it as the track continues to build through to the end.
Some additional information via Matador:
Every track on The Golden Archipelago is associated with an island somewhere around the world, in this case the buried South Pacific city of Nan Madol, off the eastern shore of Pohnpei in the Federated States of Micronesia. The name means “spaces between” – it was actually a series of artificial islands linked by a network of canals, and inhabited until about 1500 A.D. The city was gradually abandoned and exists today in a state of decay and can only be visited by governmental permission.
Don’t forget that there will also be a limited-edition dossier that explains further the theme of the album. The 75 page, 8″x10.5″ book will features photographs of secluded islands as well as the national anthem of Bikini Atoll. The book is being backed by Kickstarter and cost $30 for US citizens and $45 for outside the US.
