TMIM reviews: Gauntlet Hair s/t

Rodrigo y Gabriela – 11:11

Rodrigo y Gabriela are an eclectic act to say the least. Having started out in a thrash metal band and growing frustrated with the limited music scene in Mexico City they uprooted and moved to Dublin, Ireland (like you do) and traded the electrics for classical guitars to fuse a flamenco sound with the speed of heavy metal. In Ireland they found the success they were looking for with a #1 spot on the Irish Albums Chart for their solo release, Rodrigo y Gabriela, beating out Arctic Monkeys and Johnny Cash.

It’s been a long three years since Rodrigo y Gabriela was released and now we get word about their sophomore release 11:11 due out September 8th on ATO Records. The object of the album, as the band says, is to give their own “Gracious” to eleven artists that have influenced them during their career. The album will have guest appearances from Testament’s Alex Skolnick as well as Strunz & Farah.

There is an endless well of talent and passion in these two. If you have never listened then it’s about time that you do.
