New Music Tuesday

nmt-final-final-final-final-final-finalIt’s not nearly enough dirt under the nails for my taste, and it just cries out Adult Alternative!, but if you like Conor Oberst there is no reason you shouldn’t give this a shot. It’s Sound at Sea Level by Simeon Ross. His last.fm page adds:

Simeon Ross is a Toronto singer/songwriter, well known in the Toronto indie scene. In addition to his solo work, Ross is also the lead singer for the acclaimed Toronto post/punk pop band ‘Infighter’.

Renowned for dynamic and attention grabbing live shows, his musical style has been strongly influenced by the Trashcan Sinatras, Doves, Morrissey, Interpol, U2, Travis, Kathleen Edwards and Stars.

Right now I’m listening to “Mount Temple,” which is slightly dissonant.

I completely disagree with your review. Simeon Ross is amazing. Conor Oberst has a country sound which is nothing like Simeon Ross’ music which is more reminiscent of The Smiths, Keane or Joy Division. I just bought ‘Sound At Sea Level’ on iTunes. ‘New Brunswick’ is a fantastic song with some very strong guitar riffs. ‘Mount Temple’ and ‘Wrter Down’ are also great. If you haven’t seen Simeon live you should. You are, of course, entitled to your opinion. I think you need to listen to this album again, you have definitely missed something. – Luska

Patrick’s Regina Spektor posts? Yeah. Those are getting some serious traffic.
