The Mars Volta have released their first single off the upcoming LP Octahedron and to be honest I’m not really sure what to think of the track, it’s unlike anything that they have ever released. When it first started streaming I seriously thought that I had a pop up that was playing music and I went to look for it to shut it off so it wouldn’t interrupt the psychedelic sound that was about to be emitted from my speakers. The song is, dare I say, tame. The guitar is clean and precise, the lyrics make sense and are all in English and the track comes in at a reasonable 4:45. There are times when you are taunted into thinking “Alright, this is where it gets crazy” and then it doesn’t. Do I like it? Am I disappointed? The one thing that I do know is that I am a little confused.
The new single “Since We’ve Been Wrong” can be heard over at I Guess I’m Floating.

Ugh. They’re kidding, right? Besides continuing to refine that mid-70s psychedelic nostalgia thing they have going on, that cut has nothing to offer anyone. If a new band had released that exact same track from their debut LP, the whole thing would flop. I miss “L’Via L’Viaquez” so much I can’t even say.
