Last week I mentioned that The Shins had gone through a 50% line up change in getting rid of Keyboardist Marty Crandall and drummer Jesse Sandoval and replacing them with Ron Lewis from Grand Archives and Fruit Bats and Joe Plummer of Modest Mouse. Well now we have a fan video of their new track “Double Bubble” which Mercer describes as “angular and chunky. It’s jabs with chords instead of strumming. It’s really fun to play and the audience really likes it. It’s got a good energy to it. It’s fun to dance to, actually, which is really cool.”
As always you can’t truly tell the quality of the song from a video shot by a fan in the middle of the crowd so I’m having trouble commenting either way as to whether this sounds like it’s going to be a great track or not, maybe you can tell me.
Here is also is a picture from The Shins show in Seattle last Monday. I only put this link because it looks like Mercer has recruited his twin brother to play bass.
