We’ve got a bit of ground to cover. Let’s get right to it:
1. OK Bear by Jeremy Enigk. Haven’t listened to it yet and may not. Enigk vanished from view of the spin-o-sphere after his 1996 masterpiece Return of the Frog Queen. After a decade-long hiatus he released the colossally disappointing — yet flawlessly titled — World Waits. Let’s just say I’m more excited about seven eight! months with no new episodes of Lost than I am about OK Bear.
2. In what first comes off as an unsubstantiated rumor, we learn that Beirut has, indeed, released a live follow-up to March of the quack quack quack honk honk honk. Mostly featuring live versions of tracks released in February on that whacky double EP, Live at Music Hall of Williamsburg also delivers unreleased material, a few cover tunes, and some older material. Go give it a listen. It sounds quite lively.
3. But the LP we really missed was Hopewell’s Good Good Desperation. We’ve been criminally silent regarding Hopewell, and for that, all apologies. “Island” favors vintage Jane’s Addiction. “10,000 Black Masses” will only fail to recall Pink Floyd to those born without ears. “Good Good Good Desperation” adds one to the already-puzzling LP title, and adds one to your playlist as well. “Stranger” just plain rocks. Those clicking over to Rhapsody should listen to the title track to The Birds of Appetite LP. Those not, get started here.
