Today’s lost classic is James Carr’s “Pouring Water On a Drowning Man” from his 1967 release You Got My Mind Messed Up.
This series was inspired by this quatrain from Thomas Gray’s poem “Elegy Written in a Country Church-Yard“:
Full many a gem of purest ray serene
The dark unfathom’d caves of ocean bear:
Full many a flower is born to blush unseen,
And waste its sweetness on the desert air.
